New Delhi: During the monsoon season, whether or not it starts raining from the sky, the downpour of shopping offers and discounts has already begun on e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Amazon. Both companies claim heavy discounts are available, especially on electronic items.

However, before succumbing to the temptation of cheap offers and big discounts, there are a few things you should consider. Otherwise, you might end up facing some losses. Let’s find out about the special aspects related to this sale and also highlight 5 things you should keep in mind.

What’s special about this monsoon sale?

  1. Amazon’s Prime Day sale runs from July 20 to 21, while Flipkart’s GOAT (Greatest of All Time) sale continues until July 25.
  2. During Amazon’s Prime Day, there is a minimum 10% discount on ICICI Bank debit/credit cards and SBI Credit cards, for a minimum shopping value of ₹5,000.
  3. In Flipkart’s GOAT Sale, you can get an instant 10% discount with Axis Bank credit cards, HDFC Bank credit/debit cards, and IDFC First Bank credit/debit cards. For grocery items, the minimum purchase value is ₹2,500, whereas for mobile phones and all other categories, it is ₹5,000.
5 things to keep in mind while shopping
  1. First and foremost, check the price of any item you are buying, whether it’s a laptop, mobile phone, or TV, on other sites as well. You can also check prices on product-specific sites like Reliance Digital or Croma for electronic items, and Myntra or Ajio for fashion items. This way, you will know where you can get the cheapest price.
  2. Be vigilant when exchanging items. Suppose you are buying a phone worth ₹20,000 and want to exchange a one-year-old phone for it. If you bought the old phone for ₹15,000, you may not get much value on e-commerce sites, perhaps just ₹6,000 to ₹7,000. In comparison, you could get up to ₹10,000 on online marketplaces like Cashify or Instacash.
  3. Pay attention to the terms of ‘No Cost EMI’. Don’t fall into the trap of cheap offers. ‘No Cost EMI’ does not mean you won’t have to pay any additional charges. Finance companies charge heavy processing fees and file charges in exchange for loans. So, the discount margin on the item you think is cheap may not be that much.
  4. Many times, e-commerce companies increase the price of some products. In such cases, the discount you get will be on that inflated price. You may think the product is quite cheap, while the truth is something else.
  5. Lastly, the most important thing is to avoid unnecessary spending in the pursuit of cheap prices. You are made to feel that it will never be cheaper, and maybe that’s true. But before that, you should ask yourself whether you really need that item, or are you just buying it because it’s cheap.

Hope you will keep these things in mind while shopping online this monsoon.
