If you missed the chance to book a Bajaj Chetak electric scooter last week, you can book it again but will have to pay a higher amount. The company has once again increased the price of the electric two-wheeler.

There has been a big demand for Bajaj Chetak but the company has been unable to meet the demand even though the company has ramped up the production. In order to reap greater benefits from rising demand, the company has announced a second price hike for the scooter since its launch.

Bajaj Chetak launched on January 14, 2020, saw its first price rise of Rs 5,000 in March and now the company has increased the price of Urbane variants by Rs 27,620. At the same time, the price of the premium variant has increased by Rs 24,620. After the price increase, the price of Chetak Urbane has gone up to Rs 1,42,620, while the price of Chetak Premium has gone up to Rs 1,44,620. The launch price of urban variants of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was Rs 1 lakh and the Premium variant was launched at Rs 1.15 lakh.

In terms of competition, the Chetak takes on the Ather 450 Plus (Rs 1.28 lakh) and Ather 450X (Rs 1.47 lakh). It also rivals the TVS iQube which is priced at Rs 1.08 lakh.

On April 13, Bajaj Auto opened bookings for the Chetak EV but had to close the bookings in just 48hours due to great demand from the customers. Currently, this scooter is available only in two cities of the country – Pune, and Bengaluru. Now the company is going to launch it in two new cities to fulfil the demand.

Chennai, Hyderabad launch soon

According to sources, Bajaj Auto will launch its battery-powered scooter in Chennai and Hyderabad soon.  As of now, Bajaj has 18 Chetak dealerships in India. Five of these are located in Pune and the rest in Bengaluru.

The Chetak EV includes LED light, alloy wheels, digital instrument cluster, steel body, front disc brake reverse mode, mobile app connectivity, GPS, and navigation among many other modern features. The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is available in six colour options.

The Bajaj Chetak comes equipped with a 4.1 kW electric motor paired with an automatic transmission, and it generates 16 Nm of torque. The IP67-certified battery pack helps in enabling a claimed riding range of 95 km on the Eco mode while the sport mode gives an 85 km range.

The company is providing a warranty of three years or 50,000 km on the battery of the electric scooter. At the same time, the company claims that its battery life will be up to 70,000 kilometers. The scooter has a 3kWh lithium-ion battery pack and it can be charged back to 25% in just an hour while zero to 100% takes up to five hours.
