If you still haven’t installed the High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) for your vehicle, as ordered by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), there might be trouble brewing for you. The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has made it mandatory for all two and four-wheeler automobiles to install HSRP number plates on or before April 15 to avoid penalty.

Several media reports quoted UP’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district RTO officer AK Pandey saying that vehicles without the high-security number plate will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 after April 15. The vehicles without HSRP in the national capital are already being fined Rs 5,500.

Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a fine ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 can be imposed if the HSRP plate is not installed in the vehicles.

What is HSRP?

It is a new number plate which is made of aluminium with letters and numbers laser encoded. It makes number plate scanning easier while eliminating the chance of creating fake plates.

The top left corner of the HSRP aluminum plate features a chromium-based blue hot stamp hologram of the Ashoka Chakra. A 10-digit laser engraved pin is marked in the bottom left corner of the plate which is your permanent address. Also, the corners of the number plate are rounded.

A key feature of HSRP plate is the mechanism through which it is linked to the vehicle. Each HSRP plate comes with 2 non-reusable locks. The HSRP is attached to the vehicle with a Snap-On-lock. Because of this, the number plate cannot be removed. Hence, if your car is ever stolen, it can be tracked with the High-Security Registration Plate.
