Monsoon has covered all the states of the country. Except for the western parts of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, monsoon has arrived in every part of the country. Till last week, the deficiency of rains that was being seen across the country has also gone away to a great extent and till June 27, the total deficiency is only 19 percent. But despite this speed of monsoon, there are many parts of the country where monsoon has reached only in name, but there is a lot of rain deficit.

Especially in most parts of eastern and south-west India, there is a huge lack of rain. If we look at Bihar, there is 78 percent deficiency in monsoon rains so far, similar is the condition of Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Jharkhand is deficient by 56 per cent, eastern Uttar Pradesh by 59 per cent and Gangetic West Bengal by 53 per cent. Many parts of Maharashtra are also witnessing severe rainfall deficit, till June 27, Marathwada has received 80 percent less rainfall and Madhya Maharashtra has recorded 70 percent less rainfall. Vidarbha, Telangana, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala are rain deficient by more than 50 per cent.

How much improvement? All the divisions which are getting more rain include East and West Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Saurashtra and Kutch region of Gujarat. Due to heavy rains in all these sub-divisions, the average of total rainfall across the country has improved, due to which till June 27, the figure of rain deficiency in the country has come down to 19 percent.

This year, there has been a big change in the trend of progress of monsoon. This is the first time in 62 years that the monsoon has reached Delhi and Mumbai simultaneously. From 23rd April, the progress of southwest monsoon has gained momentum.
