The Privilege Committee of the Lok Sabha has summoned the Managing Director of India’s largest airline company, IndiGo, Rahul Bhatia. Rahul Bhatia has been asked to appear before the Privilege Committee on August 30, 2023. During the recently concluded monsoon session, the Members of Parliament (MPs) had complained about IndiGo and stated that the airline staff did not provide them with facilities and courtesy at the airports as per protocol. In response to the complaint of violating the MPs’ protocols, the Privilege Committee has issued the summon.

There are certain rules regarding MPs’ protocols at airports, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation had informed all airlines about these rules through a letter in 2021. However, there are allegations against IndiGo that it did not provide the required facilities to the MPs as per the specified protocol. The Chairman of the Lok Sabha’s Privilege Committee is BJP MP Sushil Jain, and it is under his committee’s jurisdiction that the Managing Director of IndiGo is required to appear.
