With record-breaking Covid-19 numbers being reported on a daily basis since April, state governments have released a new set of protocols for safety and prevention from the deadly pathogen.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh imposed night curfew in all major cities, including state capital Lucknow (9 pm – 6 am), Kanpur (10 pm – 6 am) and Varanasi (9 pm – 6 am).

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) as many as 48,306 active cases of the virus were reported in the state while 9,039 casualties registered as on April 10 (8 am IST).

The UP government announced 50% of the total ambulance will be reserved for Covid-19 patients and also made it mandatory to wear masks and maintain social distancing in public places. Defaulters will be fined on spot.

All educational institutions, barring medical, nursing and para-medical institutes will remain closed in Lucknow till April 15. Meanwhile, supply of fruits, vegetables, milk, LPG, petrol-diesel, medicine and other essential items will continue as usual.

Bihar also imposed new Covid-19 restrictions in the background of sudden jump in the number of infected persons.

“For those from Bihar who are returning to the state due to the current COVID19 situation, arrangements are being made for them. Those coming by trains from Maharashtra will be tested for COVID19 at the railway stations,” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said on April 9.

Cinema halls and public transport in Bihar will now function at 50% occupancy while restaurants can remain open with 25% occupancy. Schools will remain closed for the time being and the administration also ordered for deployment of extra police force near vegetable markets, bus terminals and railways stations. This was done to ensure people followed the Covid-19 protocols.

The number of active cases in Bihar currently stands at 9,358 while the death toll reached 1,598, data from MoHFW revealed.

India’s COVID-19 tally skyrocketed on April 10 with over 1.45 lakh new infections being reported in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative count to 1,32,05,926. Country’s death toll due to the virus reached 1,68,436 with 794 fresh casualties.
