The Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla has announced to reduce the price of Covishield for state governments from Rs 400 per dose to Rs 300 per dose. The price for the private hospitals remains at Rs 600 per dose.
The CEO of SII tweeted that the company has taken a philanthropic decision to reduce the price of Covishield for states to Rs 300 dose effective immediately.
As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of @SerumInstIndia, I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs.400 to Rs.300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives.
The SII had earlier priced Covishield at Rs 400 per dose for the state governments and Rs 600 for the private hospitals. It is India’s largest vaccine manufacturer, which produces the Indian version of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
The vaccine is one of the two anti-COVID jabs being currently administered to citizens. The second Indian vaccine manufacturer Bharat Biotech has fixed the price of its Covid-19 vaccine, Covaxin, at Rs 600 per dose for state governments and at Rs 1,200 per dose for private hospitals.
