Covid-19: From beer to cab rides, it’s raining freebies for people getting vaccinated

The Beer Cafe, a popular alcohol-beverage chain, is offering discounts worth 10% on the first jab and up to 20% for second jab

Some massive discounts on beer, burger, cab rides and even tea is up for grabs as stalwart companies have come forward to encourage (read: lure) customers to get vaccinated.

The Beer Cafe, a popular alcohol-beverage chain, is promoting a new tagline that reads, ‘You got the jab, we got your tab’. It is offering discounts worth 10% on the first jab and up to 20% for second jab. India’s favourite food chain brand McDonald’s is offering 20% discount vouchers with the buzz phrase, ‘Just another reason to get vaccinated ASAP’. Popular retail centers like Delhi’s Select CityWalk (that opened partially on June 7) among others are reportedly creating ‘encouragement packages’ for vaccinated customers.

Vaccination only preventive measure

Since vaccination is the only preventive measure to tackle the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, top companies across sectors are realising the importance of getting jabbed before the third wave of infection hits us.

Hospitality sector worst hit

Its not, however, surprising to see companies from the retail sector, food & beverages sector, cinema, etc as the most active ones to raise awareness for vaccination. These sectors were hit the harshest right from the beginning of Covid spread in the country last year.

The national lockdown followed by some recovery and then a steep hit with Covid 2.0 has ruined the business for restaurant chains, movie theatres and malls alongside other sectors.

Fighting vaccine hesitancy

Industry insiders suggest that such luring offers will not only help fight the vaccine hesitancy but also increase business demand in the coming times.

Other popular beverage joints like Chaayos is offering free tea and dessert to vaccinated customers while Uber also announced free rides up to Rs 300 to and from the vaccination center.

The successive lockdowns somehow discarded the concept of going out for many people. Everything from food to movies is now available at home and with added benefits. You can avoid hours of traffic, crowded places, waiting queues, parking chaos, etc. now that you have food delivered online and latest movies on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Hence, the latest initiative by companies like The Beer Cafe, Uber and McDonald’s is looked up on as a catalyst to drive back the business momentum across these sectors.
