Maharashtra records 13,659 fresh Covid-19 cases, 54 deaths in last 24 hours

With 22,854 new cases of Covid-19, India's active caseload has reached 1,89,226 as on March 11

Maharashtra reported 13,659 new cases of Covid-19 and 54 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on March 11. With this, the cumulative cases in the state reached 22,52,057 out of which 99,008 were active cases alongside 52,610 deaths caused due to the virus.

Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have reported high number of Covid-19 positive cases on a daily basis.

“They cumulatively account for 85.91% of the new cases reported in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 13,659 (almost 60% of the daily new cases). It is followed by Kerala with 2,475 while Punjab reported 1,393 new cases,” an official statement read.

On March 9, Maharashtra’s Jalgoan district (with 5,029 active cases of Covid-19 as of now) began a three-day ‘Janta Curfew’ in the wake of the rising positive cases. Meanwhile, Nagpur Guardian Minister Nitin Raut also announced complete lockdown in the city till March 21.

“Complete lockdown to remain imposed in Nagpur City Police Commissionerate area from March 15 to March 21. Essential services will continue,” Raut said. Nagpur recorded 3,552 deaths due to the pathogen until now. It has 12,724 active cases of the virus with cumulative figures touching 1,64,698.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported 20,99,207 recoveries from the virus till now.

With 22,854 new cases of Covid-19, India’s active caseload has reached 1,89,226 as on March 11. A total of 126 death were reported in the country yesterday. The death toll has mounted to 1,58,189.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) today, a total of 22,42,58,293 COVID-19 samples have been tested till now including 7,78,416 samples that were tested on March 10.

The Indian vaccination drive has, in the mean time, covered 2,52,89,693 crore people as per the Union Health Ministry.

“These include 71,70,519 health care workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 39,77,407 HCWs who have taken the second dose, 70,31,147 front line worker (FLWs) who have taken the first dose and 5,82,118 FLWs who have taken the second dose, 9,29,359 beneficiaries aged 45 and above with specific co-morbidities and 55,99,143 beneficiaries more than 60 years old,” the official statement from the ministry revealed.
