Mumbai: Mumbai reported 788 new Covid-19 cases and 27 fresh fatalities, a sharp rise from just seven deaths a day ago, on Wednesday, taking the infection tally to 7,13,790 and the toll to 15,100, the city civic body said.

Notably, this was the tenth day in a row when Mumbai’s daily coronavirus cases have remained below the 1,000-mark.

The city witnessed a marginal increase in the new cases, while the daily fatalities rose sharply as compared to Tuesday, when the financial capital had witnessed 673 infections and seven deaths.

In the last 24 hours, 511 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered people to 6,80,520, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s updated data. Presently, Mumbai has 15,947 active Covid-19 cases, as per the data.

As many as 29,082 coronavirus tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, pushing their cumulative number to 65,09,573, the civic body said. According to the BMC, Mumbai’s Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 95%.

Mumbai’s growth rate of Covid-19 cases for the period June 2 and June 8 was 0.12%, while the case doubling rate was 553 days, it said.

The civic body said the city has 28 active containment zones in slums and chawls (old row tenements) and 62 sealed buildings (where a certain number of residents have tested positive for coronavirus).

The financial capital of the county had reported the highest-ever 11,163 Covid-19 cases on April 4, while the most deaths in a day during the second wave – at 90 – had taken place on May 1.
