Travelling in Covid times? These states are not asking for RT-PCR test report

The country is witnessing a steady decline in the Covid-19 cases and easing out of restriction. States like Maharashtra and Delhi which had suffered the most in the second wave, have already begun with the unlocking process of the localized lockdown.

In view of this, many states have revised their Covid-19 guidelines. States have waived off the rule of providing a mandatory negative RT-PCR report from travellers.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand which derive most of their revenues from the tourism sector have announced that a negative RT-PCR test result is no longer mandatory.

Here is a quick look at a few of the states:

Delhi

Delhi had mandated carrying of a recent RT-PCR report, showing zero Covid-19 infection for air travellers from Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh in the month of April.

But now, air travellers from Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh are no longer required to carry a negative RT-PCR test report when they land at the Delhi airport, as per the latest guidelines.

Himachal Pradesh

The state government recently announced that a negative RT-PCR test result was no longer mandatory to enter Himachal. On June 14, this had led to heavy vehicle traffic on highways connecting New Delhi and Himachal Pradesh.

Other states

Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, and the union territory of Chandigarh have also allowed vaccinated travellers to enter without a negative RT-PCR test result.

According to the Union Health Ministry data updated on June 16, India had reported a single-day rise of 62,224 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours.

The total tally of Covid-19 cases is 2.96 crores while the active cases were recorded below nine lakh after 70 days.
