Aiming to make India a $1- trillion digital economy, the Centre has drawn up a 1,000-day plan. The idea is to make India the largest connected nation in the world. “Our priority is connectivity. We want to make India the largest connected country in the world,” The Economic Times reported, quoting senior government official.

It is important to make all the apps and websites of government departments and ministries to empower Indians, according to the official quoted in the report.

“Simple and world-class laws” for tech, social media and cyberspace also form a part of the 1,000-day agenda, the report said.

The government also wants to ensure that the internet is open, trusted, safe and accountable, the report said quoting the official. The government interface will also be minimal.

The agenda has also identified hi-tech and developing skills as focus areas. The term hi-tech covers artificial intelligence, AI, cyber security, super-computing, semiconductors, blockchain and quantum computing.

“We will focus on areas that we are good at as a nation and be globally competitive so we will pick those areas and focus on them,” the official is quoted as saying in the report.

Skills and talent development will be another key focus area as “there has been a surge in the need for talent post-Covid-19 since the digitalisation efforts of companies have gone up,” said the official.
