Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian steps down

After a three-year career as Chief Economic Adviser, K V Subramanian has stepped down from his post on Friday. He stated that he has made the decision to return to academia. Subramanian posted a letter on Twitter, in which he has stated, “I have decided to return back to academia following the completion of my 3-year fulfilling tenure. Serving The nation has been an absolute privilege and I have wonderful support and encouragement.”

He was preceded by Arvind Subramanian, who left in June 2018 for personal reasons. He is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta.

Subramanian graduated from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in financial economics. His doctorate was completed under the guidance of Raghuram Rajan, the former governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

In his letter, Subramanian has expressed his gratitude as well as praised the leadership of both Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

For PM, he mentioned, “In close to three decades of my professional life, I am yet to encounter a more inspiring leader than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His intuitive understanding of economic policy combines with an unmistakeable determination to use the same to elevate the lives of common citizens,”
