In the unorganised sector, there are an estimated 38 crore employees, and employment opportunities are plentiful (Economic Survey, 2019-20).

On the 101st Foundation Day of the Labour Bureau, the union minister kicked off the field work of the Area Frame Establishment Survey (AFES) at Shram Bureau Bhawan in Chandigarh, according to a report in the Business Standard.

With the growing relevance of data in the future and the fact that India is a labor-rich country, a dedicated organisation for labour and price statistics, such as the Labour Bureau, deserves to be strengthened and fully supported, according to the minister.

The minister also met with state labour ministers, labour secretaries, and commissioners from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and the UTs of Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh to discuss progress in registering unorganised workers on the e-Shram portal, as well as the states’ and UTs’ readiness to implement various schemes and reforms.

The minister also handed out e-Shram cards to unorganised workers and provided ESIC Covid Relief Scheme permission letters to the dependents of those who died as a result of the pandemic.
