e-SHRAM portal: Over 27 lakh unorganised workers registered
Over 27 lakh unorganised workers have already registered, and the Government of India is actively cooperating with all the state governments.
The ministry of labour and employment has said that since its launch the e-SHRAM portal has registered over 27 lakh unorganised workers. There are various camps being organised by the ministry to register unorganised workers on the portal. In New Delhi, a camp was organised at Shram Shakti Bhavan to register various unorganised workers from ministries located in the building. At the camp, it is likely that over 80 workers would have registered on the portal.
The minister of state for labour and employment and petroleum and natural gas Rameshwar Teli inaugurated the camp. He said that the national database of unorganised workers(E-Shram portal) will help the government in targeted delivery and will likely be a game-changer for the social security of millions of unorganised workers, domestic workers, construction workers, migrant workers, gig and platform workers, etc.
“Over 27 lakh unorganised workers have already registered, and the Government of India is actively cooperating with all the state governments and other stakeholders for registering the workers on the portal,” Teli said. The portal also gives an accidental insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh to those who have registered.
The workers will be issued e-SHRAM card containing a 12 digit unique number upon registration. The details of the workers will also be shared by state governments and departments. This card will be accepted in all the states of the country. NIC is the technical partner of the ministry for e-SHRAM portal.
The government is likely to issue an advisory mandating for enrollment of all unorgainsed workers on the portal to all the employers.
