e-Shram portal: Over four crore unorganised workers registered

The Ministry of Labour and Employment announced that the number of registrations on the e-Shram portal had surpassed the 4-crore mark since its launch. Workers in a variety of occupations, including construction, garment manufacture, fishing, gig and platform work, street vending, domestic work, agriculture and allied, and transportation, have registered on the portal, according to a labour ministry statement.

According to the report, migrant workers make up a large share of the workforce in some of these industries.

Through registration on the e-Shram portal, all workers in the unorganised sector, including migratory workers, can now take advantage of different social security and employment-based initiatives.

The recent figures suggest that over 4.09 crore workers have signed up for the platform. Around 50.02 percent of those who benefit are women, while 49.98 percent are men.

An equal number of men and women participated in this initiative, according to the report.

Weekly improvements in registrations by gender have been observed, with men and women workers registering in about equal numbers.

Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh are leading the way in terms of registrations. The smaller states and union territories (UTs) have a lower number of registered workers.

This programme also needs to develop traction in states and UTs like Meghalaya, Manipur, Goa, and Chandigarh.

This registration would make vital social programmes and numerous rights available to workers in the unorganised sector and in employment more easily delivered and accessible. Individual workers can utilise the e-Shram mobile app or website to complete online registrations.

They can also register at Common Service Centres (CSCs), State Seva Kendras, Labor Facilitation Centres, Department of Posts select post offices, and Digital Seva Kendras.

Unorganized workers will obtain a digital e-SHRAM card after registering at the e-SHRAM Portal, and they will be able to update their profiles and particulars via the portal or mobile app.
