In a move to accelerate economic growth by building infrastructure, the government may launch the ambitious Gati Shakti multimodal connectivity valued at Rs 100 trillion by next month, according to a report in Business Standard. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPII) is spearheading the master plan, which will increase the construction work by integrating key modes of transport that includes, road, rail, air and waterways improving industrial productivity and cut logistics cost. By early October, an approval is expected from the cabinet, the report said.

Apart from ensuring multimodal connectivity at various production centers, the masterplan will increase opportunities for business and investment in the country and would result in a faster decision making.

As per the internal estimates of the government, the Gati Shakti project will facilitate in reducing the time taken for getting approvals for infrastructure projects to around 162 days from the present 600 days. The masterplan was announced by the Prime Minster Narendra Modi on Independence Day.

He said that the Prime Minister Gati Shakti scheme will provide employment opportunities for lakhs of youth and will go a long way in making local manufacturers globally competitive. This will also develop possibilities of creating future economic zones.

Integrated portal to provide real time data

A new portal, that will be integrated with existing portal and with the data of key infrastructure ministries will be launched by the Prime Minister. The integrated portal will be updated regularly and various government departments as well as other stakeholders will be able to access real-time information and data on various infrastructure projects.

In simple word, access to information like areas where more roads has to be constructed and logistics rate would be easily available.

The portal will not only help individual ministries to plan or work for a project, but also increase business opportunities and projects especially in the north eastern parts of the country.
