The government's ambitious targets like expanding the length of the national highway network to 2 lakh route km, creation of over 200 airports, heliports, water aerodromes and doubling the gas pipeline network to 35,000 km, will be fulfilled with the help of Gati Shakti by 2024-25. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the ambitious Rs 100 lakh crore Gati Shakti Master Plan which will provide multi-modal connectivity to more than 1,200 industrial clusters, including two defence corridors across the country. According to a top government official, the Master Plan will integrate the planning and designing of projects with a common and holistic vision, whilst breaking down the isolation among ministries and strengthen the country’s competitiveness and ensure seamless movements of goods, people and enhance ease of doing business and ease of living.

After launching the plan, the Prime Minister said that the national Master Plan will give Gati Shakti to development plans of 21st century and will help in the timely completion of the plans. The foundation is being laid for the next 25 years, he added.

For the purpose of integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects, a digital platform has been created under Gati Shakti which will bring 16 ministries, including rail and roadways, together.

It will also provide high resolution satellite images, infrastructure, utilities, administrative boundaries, land and logistics.

Targets for 2024-25 under Gati Shakti

The government’s ambitious targets like expanding the length of the national highway network to 2 lakh route km, creation of over 200 airports, heliports, water aerodromes and doubling the gas pipeline network to 35,000 km, will be fulfilled with the help of Gati Shakti by 2024-25.

It will also achieve, 11 industrial corridors and two defence corridors in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, 4G connectivity in all villages, increasing the capacity of renewable energy from 87.7 GW to 225 GW, expanding the length of the transmission network to 4,54,200 circuit km, increasing the cargo handling capacity of railways to 1,210 million tonnes from 1,600 million tonnes, 202 fishing clusters, harbours, landing centers and more.

The PM Gati Shakti Master Plan will also include projects under existing flagship schemes such as Udaan, Bharatmala, Sagarmala, expansion of railway network, inland waterways and Bharat Net.

An empowered group of secretaries, headed by the cabinet secretary will be present to make sure the implementation of this major initiative.
