Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transferred about Rs 19,500 crore to over 9.75 crore beneficiaries farmers under the government’s PM-Kisan scheme on Monday via video conferencing.

The government has till now transferred nine installments amounting to around Rs 1.57 lakh crore to farmer families under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme. The Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of this scheme from across the country via virtual mode.

The PM Kisan Sammann Nidhi scheme provides annual income support of Rs 6,000 to every land-owning farmer. The money is paid in three equal cash transfers of Rs 2,000, once every four months.

The last installment was released in May this year. The government had disbursed a little more than Rs 19,000 crore to 90 million beneficiaries under the scheme.

Addressing the virtual event in the presence of the Prime Minister, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that before the ninth installment, the central government had disbursed about Rs 1.37 lakh crore to around 11 crore beneficiaries under the scheme.

The government has linked 2.28 crore PM-Kisan beneficiaries with the Kisan Credit Card scheme, under which they have been able to avail loans up to 2.32 lakh crore so far.

PM Modi addressed the farmers of the nation and appreciated their efforts as well as development in the agriculture sector.

Who can register?

Any farmer can enroll for PM-Kisan by applying at local revenue offices or a state’s nodal officer for the scheme, who is nominated by the state government. Farmers can also register themselves through the PM-Kisan portal and common service centres.

States have to upload data to a centralised public finance management system, a platform that auto verifies bank accounts and checks biometric Aadhaar details of beneficiaries sent by states. These are then sent back to states for physical signatures.
