CBSE class 12 board exams cancelled

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1 announced the cancellation of Class XII Board examinations due to the impact of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

“The decision has been taken in the interest of students. Health of students is supreme. We can’t force classroom exams,” he said.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Modi in which it was decided that the CBSE will take steps to compile the results of Class XII students as per a well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner.

Anxiety among students, parents and teachers must be put to an end, and students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation, a government statement quoted the prime minister as saying.

The prime minister said at the meeting that Covid-19 has affected the academic calendar and the issue of board examinations has been causing immense anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal welcomed the Centre’s decision. In a tweet, the chief minister said, “I am glad 12th exams have been cancelled. All of us were very worried abt the health of our children. A big relief.”
