Netflix, hotstar, youtube, amazon prime

India’s OTT market is witnessing a big rise. The pandemic made everyone to sit at home which became a game-changer for platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Zee5, SonyLIV, Hotstar, Voot and many others. One of the major benefits for the OTT viewers is that they get to see a diverse range of content.

Variety of shows are available on these platforms but if you are looking for some shows to binge-watch with your near and dear ones, then here’s the list that you can refer to. Money9 gives you top five female-centric shows on various OTT platforms to binge-watch.

Orange Is The New Black

When Suzzane said, “No. This year I’m loving someone who deserves me: Me” all female souls must have felt contented. ‘Orange is the new black’ is a show which everyone has on their to-watch list but somehow miss watching it. This show is an American comedy-drama based on Piper Kerman’s memoir, Orange is the new black: My year in a women’s prison. The series is Netflix’s longest-running original series. It is about how the protagonists deal with prison politics and the rights of women prisoners.

So dear ladies, grab your popcorn and watch this show for the positivity that you might need while dealing with misogynists. On this note, also remember what Red said, “The second you’re perceived as weak, you already are.”

Made In Heaven

Zoya Akhtar’s Made in Heaven has made a place in our hearts. The show is about two wedding planners Tara and Karan and how their lives evolve after every wedding they plan with Karan hiding his identity of being a gay and Tara being middle-class girl married to a wealthy businessman. We will always remember how Tara gave heights to her wedding company, starting from scratch.

One of the moments in the show where Angad Roshan defends his fiance for not being a virgin still gushes into our intellect. This age-old practice where parents want their daughter-in-law to be “pure like ghee” is as stupid as Angad Roshan’s parents. With all the insecurities and traumas that this series presents will make us think about things differently. Thanks to Amazon Prime for giving space to this show.

The Trip

This story of four girlfriends Mallika Dua, Lisa Haydon, Shweta Tripathi and Sapna Pabbi is a must-watch in Youtube. The story revolves around these four girlfriends going for a bachelorette trip from Delhi to Thailand. When friends become your chosen family, life transpires differently. Just like few hit male-centric road-trip based films, this series is women-centric and documents all the misadventures and weird confessions of them. Watching four confident women on screen is never a bad idea.

Aarya

Aarya is a crime drama series on Disney+ Hotstar based on the Dutch drama Penoza. Sushmita Sen starrer Aarya is about an independent woman who later joins a mafia gang to protect her family. She also seeks vengeance from the murderers of her husband. For this series, Sushmita Sen also received an award for Best Actress-female. The women-centric show is brilliantly weaved around a feminist who protects her family at all cost. The dialogue “Phirse woh bano jo tum ho panje bahar nikalo sherni ki tarah” gave us goosebumps. We know no one messes with Aarya
