Online grocery delivery service firm BigBasket, which was the victim of a data breach in November last year, is reportedly facing the brunt of that episode with personal data, including email IDs, home addresses, contact details and IP addresses of as many as 20 million users being put up for sale on the dark web for $40,000.

Threat intelligence SaaS provider Cyble, which reported this data breach in October last year, revealed a hacking group called ShinyHunters to be responsible for this massive data leak. This group, active since 2015, apparently leaked a total of 73.2 million user records from over 11 companies till date.

Hackers responsible for the leak have reportedly now published user data of over 20 million Indians on dark web.

In a statement to Gadgets360, BigBasket said the social media post refers to an alleged data breach in November last year and not something that has happened recently. It reiterated that customer data continues to be safe and no further action needs to be taken by customers.

If you want to check whether your data was breached in this massive leak, here’s what you can do:

One of the most popular website that tracks internet data breaches is Have I Been Pwned. Follow this link and enter your email address or phone number. This will reveal not only if your data was breached under the Big Basket hack but also any hack across the internet.

Another website that can be accessed to check if your phone number was exposed to any kind of compromise is The News Each Day. Here, you enter your phone number and within no time, you know if your contact information was part of any breach. The site generates random phone numbers that start with the same five digits as your number and sends 99 fake and 1 real number to the server in order to protect user privacy.
