GJEPC said that the sector has achieved almost half (46%) of the $41.66 billion exports set by the government, with Rs 1,40,412.94 crore ($18.98 billion) exports in April to September period.

Companies operating in the consumer goods sector, especially dealing in jewellery and electronics expect this festive season to exceed the one of 2019, the pre Covid-19 pandemic period. Kerala’s popular festival Onam, which marks the beginning of the festive season, has seen the return of many advertisers who have invested in marketing, promotions and launching campaigns. Spending on advertisement for festival season is up from 2020 levels by close to 50-60%.

Jewellery retailers like Kalyan Jewellers, Malabar Gold and Diamonds along with Vivo and Haier Appliances India have launched festival-centric campaigns for Onam, Raksha Bandhan and the upcoming wedding season.

Jewellery retailers expect a strong recovery

Malabar Gold and Diamonds has rolled out ‘One India, One Gold Rate’ where the jewellery is sold across the country at the same price with reasonable making charges. To further boost demand, the brand is also giving instant discounts. Kalyan Jewellers expects a decent recovery this Onam, aided by the overall consumer sentiment and lower prices of gold. It also expects the upcoming wedding season and consumers to prefer organized jewellery brands over unorganized ones to further support the recovery. The jewellery retailer operates 116 outlets across India.

Companies dealing with consumer durables and appliance manufacturers usually see businesses picking up steam during the festive season. They are optimistic about this season as well and expect strong sales.

Home Appliance brands rolling out offers

Haier Appliances India has rolled out a slew of offers to maximise sales this festive season. The refrigerator and AC maker has collaborated with different banks for Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) options and is also offering cashback on the products.
