"Interacted with NGOs & CSOs of the country. Discussed how an enhanced partnership between Govt & these organisations will strengthen our #HarGharDastak vaccination campaign. Our Govt seeks support of the organisations to take our campaign to every nook and corner of the country," Mandaviya tweeted after the meeting.

India set a world record when the country administered 2.5 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine on September 17 to coincide with Prime Minister Modi’s 71st birthday. It was almost double of the previous highest tally of 1.3 crore doses in a single day. Further, the government is aiming to administer a cumulative 100 crore jabs by October 10. As of September 25, the total number of vaccines administered stood at 84.89 crore, of which nearly 62.71 crore were first time doses and nearly 22.17 doses were the second doses.

This remarkable feat for the country wouldn’t have been possible without states going all out in the battle against the pandemic.

State-wise performance

If one looks at the aggregate number of vaccines administered, the poll-bound state of Uttar Pradesh leads the chart, having administered nearly 9.97 crore vaccines as on September 25. Having administered close to 10 crore vaccines, UP also was the state to administer the most number of second doses – at 1.82 crore.

Maharashtra with total Covid vaccines of 7.74 is second on the list of states having inoculated the most number of people. With over 6 crore vaccinations, Madhya Pradesh is the 3rd spot.

Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal have administered over 5 crore vaccines, including the two doses.

State of states battling Covid crisis

Among the five states which have been reporting the highest number of cases of Covid-19 and its variants, in terms of percentage of these states’ population that had received the second dose, Kerala stood first where nearly 19.52% of the population had been fully vaccinated. It was followed by Andhra Pradesh whose 25.70% population had received their second doses. Third on the list was Karnataka whose 24.64% population had been fully vaccinated.

Maharashtra  with 19.52% population fully vaccinated was fourth on the list, while Tamil Nadu with just 14.28% fully vaccinated people stood last in this tally.

The Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands with 4.34 lakh doses and Dadra and Nagar Haveli with 4.90 lakh doses were among places where fewest Covid-19 vaccinations had been administered.
