Delhi cabinet approved ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to the kin of martyrs who lost their lives in the line of duty

The Delhi cabinet has approved a proposal of granting Rs 1 crore ex-gratia to the families of six bravehearts who were martyred in the line of duty. The Delhi government said it will honour its promise of standing with families of all paramilitary, army, police, and civil defence personnel residing in the city.

Of the six martyrs, two belonged to the Delhi police, three were from Indian air force and one was posted with civil defence.

“Those who lost their lives in the line of duty cannot be compensated, but the family will get some help to honour their sacrifice. Delhi government stands with the families of all paramilitary, Army, police and civil defence personnel residing in Delhi,” said chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Martyred bravehearts

Sanket Kaushik, ACP, Delhi Police passed away on July 25, 2020, when a speeding mini-truck coming from Gurgaon hit him on the Rajokri flyover. He succumbed to his injuries when he was admitted to AIIMS.

On September 15, 2016, a speeding car hit Vikas Kumar, when he was on checking duty near Nehru place. The car smashed through the barricade and hit him. He was from Jhajjar district in Haryana. He was admitted to AIIMS in a critical condition and passed away after 15 days.

A similar incident happened with Parvesh Kumar, a civil defence personnel on September 20, 2020. He was checking vehicles near the Mangolpuri flyover when he was hit by a truck.

Indian Air Force officers Rajesh Kumar and Sunit Mohanty died in a plane crash. The aircraft had taken off from Jorhat airport on June 3, 2019, half an hour after which it had gone missing.

Squadron Leader Meet Kumar who was onboard MiG-21 also passed away, as the aircraft crashed during an operational flight on July 18, 2018, at Kangra Hills in Himachal Pradesh.
