Under the 'Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana', Rs 50,000 ex gratia will be given to every family that lost a member to Covid-19.
Families in Delhi which have lost their loved ones to Covid-19 will get a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 from the state government. If the family has lost its breadwinner to the pandemic, it will get an additional pension of Rs 2,500 per month. Many state governments have already announced schemes offering financial assistance to families badly hit by Covid-19. The Delhi government is the latest to unveil a social security scheme, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launching ‘Mukhyamantri Covid-19 Pariwar Aarthik Sahayata Yojana’.
Delhi govt’s financial assistance scheme
He said the Delhi Government is sensitive to the needs of the people amid these testing times. If a person died of Covid-19, the family will receive Rs 50,000. He said that additionally a monthly Rs 2,500 will be given to families that have lost their breadwinners.
Children orphaned by Covid-19 will get Rs 2,500 every month till they attain the age of 25 years.
Delhi government’s Social Welfare Department will be the nodal and implementing agency for the scheme. On the very first day of the scheme, three applications seeking an ex-gratia amount of Rs 50,000 and five applications for the monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 were processed.
The application process is simple and could be done online. The eligible applicants need to register on https://edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in/ using their Aadhaar details and mobile numbers. Within seven days of successful submission of the form, a government representative will visit the applicant’s home for verification of information and to further assist in collecting any additional information and documents if required.
Schemes by Odisha and Assam
Earlier in June, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had asked officials to identify women, who lost their husbands to Covid-19, to bring them under the ambit of social welfare schemes. Children who lost their parents to the pandemic will also get assistance under the social welfare schemes. Patnaik had said they would be made a part of welfare schemes such as Madhu Babu Pension Yojana.
The Assam government led by Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched the Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Widow Support Scheme that will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh to women who lost their husbands to the virus if their annual income is below Rs 5 lakh. Widows of government employees will however not come under the ambit of this scheme.
