The range of 160 km offered by the Rugged electric scooter is something that might attract customers.

The Indian Electric Vehicle (EV) market just got another player opening the EV market to endless possibilities. Tamil Nadu based EV maker eBikeGo has launched its moto-scooter named Rugged.

The Rugged electric scooter will be launched in two variants- G1 and G1+, and the price will be in the range of Rs 79,999 and Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom). As per the company, the deliveries are expected to roll out from November. Currently, the customers can book the Rugged scooter from the official website of eBikeGo and it can be reserved for Rs 499, which will be refunded in case of cancellation.

The company claims that the actual purchase price of the e-scooter will come down after taking into consideration the government subsidies, according to a report in the Mint.

Over 3000 charging points

In terms of features, the Rugged electric scooter comes with a 3kW motor capable of clocking a top speed of 70 kmph, along with a 2X 2kWh replaceable battery. The batteries take around 3.5 hours to charge and boast a range of 160 km. In addition to this, the scooter has a storage capacity of 30L and the motor body is composed of a steel frame and cradle chassis, which comes with a 7-year warranty. The vehicle comes with 12 built-in smart sensors, anti-theft features and it can also be unlocked using the mobile app.

The Rugged electric scooter will be manufactured in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore jointly with Boom Motors and the company expects to reach a production capacity of 1 lakh vehicles soon. The company has elaborate plans of opening experience centres in nine states and over 3,000 charging stations. The vehicle will be available through online pre-booking and offline centres.

Rugged offers a competitive Range

The range of 160 km offered by the Rugged electric scooter is something that might attract customers. Recently launched, Ola S1 and S1 pro claim to have ranges of 121 km and 181 km, respectively, while the Ather 450X comes with a range of 116 km. Simple One manufactured by Simple Energy says it has a range of 236 km on a single charge under ideal driving conditions.

On a global scale, India is faring much better as compared to its western counterparts. As per Electric Scooter Guide, in the United States NAMI Burn-E offers the e-scooter with highest range of 85.8km.
