Due to the indefinite closure of educational institutions, owing to the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, desktops, tablets and laptops have witnessed a 50.5% shipment growth on a YoY basis in the April to June period, latest data from International Data Corporation (IDC) said.

It also said that a total of 3.2 million PCs were shipped in the quarter, with all product categories reporting strong double-digit growth, despite the absence of any large education and government deal. It further stated that laptops were the most sought after computing devices, as they continued holding a major market share.

According to IDC’s estimations HP, Dell and Lenovo emerged as the top three brands with market shares of 34%, 22% and 18% respectively.

Enterprise PC segment hit by component shortages.

IDC also noted that the commercial segment grew by a modest 14% YoY as IT and ITES companies continued purchasing to manage the ongoing Work From Home (WFH) scenario.

The enterprise PC market was impacted relatively higher due to the semiconductor shortage, as per a report in The Times of India. However, it also said that the extent of order shortfalls and backlogs have reduced for the segment.
