Craze for SUVs is at its zenith

High demand for new automobiles, combined with a production shortage, has resulted in record bookings.

Mahindra Bolero Neo is the latest entrant in the SUV market. It is the successor to the old Bolero model that was popular among motor enthusiasts. The first Bolero had hit the market about two decades ago and the brand continues to lead the market segment with frequent upgrades.

Neo, the latest addition, is aimed at the modern generation of SUV owners.

Built on the core strength of the TUV300, another popular Mahindra vehicle, Bolero Neo has certain enhancements that give a better on-road experience. The ride height has been lowered and the suspension has been returned in order to achieve optimal levels of comfort and ease. In terms of styling, Neo gets the X-shaped bumpers from the Bolero family, along with the signature grille and side-claddings.

m-Hawk diesel engine

Power-wise, Neo is equipped with Mahindra’s 1.5-litre m-Hawk diesel engine capable of producing 100hp and 260 Nm torque that ensures strength in performance. The SUV is suitable for a road during peak-hour traffic as well as for cruising on the highway. It comes with a 5-speed gearbox, which is common across all variants. Its Multi-Terrain Technology (MTT) detects slip in the wheel at low speeds and powers up the wheel for better grip. Neo shares its chassis with the likes of Thar and Scorpio, which makes it optimal for rough terrain and slight off-roading.

Tech additions

Bolero Neo comes with abundant technological additions. Some of the key features include a cruise control system, voice messaging and a mobile app called ‘BlueSense’ that enables the owner to keep a track of his car. The top model comes with alloy wheels and a massive 17.8 cm touchscreen system equipped with Bluetooth and USB.

Safety upgrades

In terms of safety, Neo has its priorities in place. It is packed with dual airbags, anti-lock brakes paired with electronic brake force distribution and ISOFIX child seat mounts are the key safety features.
Priced between Rs 8.48 lakh (entry-level variant) and Rs 9.99 lakh (top-end), Neo gives a three-year/1,00,000 km warranty and spare parts whose costs are at par with the basic Bolero.
