Cristiano Ronaldo informed the Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri of his intention to leave the club on Thursday.

Twelve years after he was sold to Real Madrid, Manchester United is leading the race to sign Juventus star striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The move comes after Ronaldo informed the Italian club that he wants to leave.

Manchester United is now in advanced talks with the Portuguese forward over a £24 million transfer from Juventus after Manchester City backed out of the race to sign the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo informed the Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri of his intention to leave the club on Thursday.

“Yesterday, Cristiano told me that he no longer has any intention to play for Juventus,” manager Massimiliano Allegri said.

Ronaldo has less than 12 months of his contract with Juventus that is worth an estimated €31m a season after tax and it is understood that City was reluctant to pay a fee of between €25 and €30m for a player who will turn 37 in February, according to a Guardian report.

Ronaldo spent six years at United between 2003-2009, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.
