The Indian electric two-wheeler segment has a brand-new entrant, the Simple One electric scooter, which is expected to give serious competition to Ola S1.

The Simple One electric scooter, manufactured by Bangalore based electric vehicle venture Simple Energy, has received over 30,000 pre-bookings so far. It was unveiled earlier this week and the company says it has received an awe-inspiring response from the customers.  Launched on the same day as the Ola S1 electric scooter, the Simple One boasts of massive pre-booking figures despite having a zero marketing approach. Simple Energy’s Founder and CEO Suhas Rajkumar expressed his gratitude to their customers for extending support to their product.

Heavy pre-booking figures

As per Simple Energy, there was a heavy demand that was witnessed after the scooter was unveiled and the backend operation team had to deal with a few issues because of that. The issues of pre-orders were however resolved and now the company aims at kicking off production at the earliest. As of now, the Simple One can be pre-booked only on the company’s official site by paying Rs 1,947 and it is available in colours like red, blue, black and white.

The roadmap

The company says that it will be delivering to 13 states in the first phase and has plans pumping in Rs 350 crore over the next two years and expand into other regions. The states which will receive the electric scooters are- Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala followed by Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Goa.

Key features and competitor

The Simple One claims a range of 236 km on a single charge under ideal driving conditions. The top speed stands at 105 kmph, while acceleration at 0 to 50 kmph in 3.6 seconds. It is powered by a 4.8kWh battery, which is detachable and weighs a little over 6 kg. The company says that for every minute of charging, the scooter can provide a range of 2.5 kms.

The other key player in the market apart from Ola’s offering is Ather 450. It is powered by a 2.4kW battery and boasts a top speed of over 80 kmph. It can cover a distance of 75 kms on a full charge. It can accelerate from 0-40kmph in 3.9s.
