The PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline has also been extended by the government. As per the announcement made by the Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar has been extended by three months to September 30, 2021 from the current deadline of June 30, 2021.

The PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline has been extended due to the second wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The government also extended deadlines for various income tax compliances and said the amount paid by an employer to employees for Covid-19 treatment would be tax-exempt.

“The amount paid for medical treatment to an employee by the employer or to a person by any person on account of Covid-19 for the financial year 2019-20 and subsequent year won’t be taxed in hands of an employee or the beneficiary,” Thakur said.

Also, ex-gratia payment received from an employer by family members in case of death of an employee due to Covid-19 would be exempt from income tax.

“Ex-gratia payment by the employer to an employee’s family or by any person to any other person’s family on the death of an employee or any other person on account of covid-19 for 2019-20 or subsequent year will be tax exempted. Ex-gratia from any other person has been restricted to Rs 10 lakh,” Thakur said.

The income tax department, in a statement, said the payment deadline for ‘Vivad Se Vishwas’ direct tax dispute resolution scheme has been extended by two months till August 31. Taxpayers can make payments till October 31 with additional amount of interest.
