Customers are getting e-vehicles at heavily discounted rates in some states.

With the continuous hike in auto fuel prices adding to the woes of consumers, the market for e-vehicles has started growing rapidly. The automobile industry is leveraging this market sentiment by bringing more and more affordable electric vehicles at competitive prices for customers.

Customers are getting e-vehicles at heavily discounted rates in some states. In Delhi and Gujarat, the state government is giving subsidies on e-bikes and e-cars, making it easier for people to purchase.

FAME-II policy

The central government has made significant changes in the 2019 Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme for e-vehicles. With these changes, 50% more subsidy can be provided on an electric two-wheeler. On the purchase of an electric two-wheeler, a person can get a subsidy of Rs 15,000 per kWh of battery capacity.

A maximum subsidy of up to 40% on the total cost of the vehicle can be given in any state. For e-cars, a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity can be given. This can be up to Rs 1.5 lakh.

Delhi

The subsidy for two-wheelers is given according to the battery capacity of Rs 5,000 per kWh in Delhi. Up to a maximum of Rs 30,000 with an additional exemption on registration charges and road tax is provided on a bike. For e-car, a discount of Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity along with registration and road tax exemption is given. There are 72 charging stations in Delhi, the list of which is available on this site- https://ev.delhi.gov.in/.

Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh

Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have the same rules for e-vehicles. There is a complete exemption on registration and road tax. However, recently the government has made changes in the EV policy and subsidies. Soon, subsidies on e-vehicles can be announced in both states.

Maharashtra

The discount on an e-bike in Maharashtra is sum total of Rs 10,000, Rs 15,000 incentive, Rs 7,000 scrappage, and Rs 12,000 other discounts. On an e-car it is Rs 1.50 lakh, Rs 25,000 scrappage, Rs 1.5 lakh incentive. Both the vehicles are exempted from registration charges and road tax. The incentive offer is till 31st December 2021.

Gujarat

The Gujarat government is giving Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity subsidies on both e-bike and e-cars. However, the maximum limit is Rs 20,000 for a bike and Rs 1.50 lakh for a car. Apart from that, there is an exemption on road tax and registration charges. The Gujarat government will give this discount on 20,000 e-cars and 1.10 lakh bikes.

Meghalaya

Meghalaya government will give a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kWh battery capacity on e-bikes, along with exemption on registration charges and road tax. For e-car, the subsidy is at the rate of Rs 4,000 per kWh battery capacity along with registration-road tax exemption.

The EV policy is different in every state. It is also subject to changes as the policy is renewed every year.
