Virat Kohli on September 16 said he will step down from captaincy in T20Is after the T20 World Cup in Dubai. Elaborating on his decision, he said he has been fortunate enough not only to represent India, but also lead the team with utmost capability. He also thanked everyone who supported him in this journey from the boys, support staff, selection committee, coaches and each every Indian fan who prayed for them. The 32 year old will continue to lead India in the Test and ODI formats of the game.

Kohli to continue as batsman in T20Is

The star Indian cricketer said that due to the immense workload while playing all the three formats in the last 8-9 years and also as a captaining regularly in the last 5-6 years, he needs to give himself the space ro be fully ready to lead India in the Test and ODI cricket.

“I have given everything to the team during my team as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 team as a batsman moving forward”, the tweet said.

Further he added that arriving at the decision took a lot of time, and after a lot of discussion with vice captain Rohit Sharma and coach Ravi Shastri, he had taken the decision.

“After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 captain after this T20 world cup in Dubai in October,” the statement added.

He has also spoken to the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, secretary Jay Shah and all the other selectors on the same. The statement ended saying that he will continue to serve Indian cricket and Indian team to the best of his ability.
