Vi customers are getting SMS and calls from unidentified numbers asking them to update their KYC immediately

Telecom operator Vodafone (VIL) has asked customers to be alert after it reported some subscribers getting calls and messages from unidentified numbers seeking update of KYC details.

The company has warned the customers to not fall for such traps and any unverified calls. It said that if any customers click on an unverified link or shared any crucial details with these fraudsters, it could lead to serious consequences like data theft from their mobile devices.

Pretending to be the company’s representative, the fraudsters pressurize the users with SIM block if KYC is not done. The unsuspecting users do not realise the trap and follow the steps as suggested by these scammers.

The fraudsters take out confidential information from customers under the pretext of verification.

Clearing the air around the authenticity of such calls VIL said, “All customer communication from the company is only done from the SMS ID ‘ViCARE’. Any SMS being acted upon which is not originating from ‘ViCARE’ is strictly not advisable.

“It has been brought to our notice that some Vi customers are getting SMS and calls from unidentified numbers asking them to update their KYC immediately. Customers are advised to not give their KYC details or share any OTP with anybody on a call, and should not call back on these numbers or click on any link mentioned in the SMS,” the statement added further.
