13.22 lakh new members enrolled in ESIC scheme in August 2021

For the period between September 2017 and March 2018, about 83.35 lakh new subscribers joined the ESIC scheme. The report added that the gross new enrolments from September 2017 to August 2021 were 5.56 crore. 

Employees State Insurance Corporation’s (ESIC) social security scheme saw an enrollment of around 13.22 lakh new members in August this year as against 13.33 lakh in the previous month, official data on Monday, giving a perspective on the formal sector employment in India. The latest data is part of a report released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). The latest data showed that this year, the gross new enrolments with ESIC were 10.74 lakh in April, 8.88 lakh in May, 10.62 lakh in June and 13.33 lakh in July.

Post the impact of the second wave of the pandemic that hit the country in mid-April this year, the June and July numbers show an increase in enrolments as states eased restrictions.

The report also showed that the new subscribers with ESIC were 1.15 crore in 2020-21 as against 1.51 crore in 2019-20 and 1.49 crore in 2018-19.

For the period between September 2017 and March 2018, about 83.35 lakh new subscribers joined the ESIC scheme. The report added that the gross new enrolments from September 2017 to August 2021 were 5.56 crore.

Around, 4.61 gross crore new subscribers joined with ESIC scheme

According to the report, the net new enrolments with retirement fund body EPFO was at 14.80 lakh in August, which increased from 13.15 lakh in July 2021.

It showed that, around 4.61 crore (gross) new subscribers joined between September 2017 and August 2021 joined the Employees’ Provident Fund scheme.

The NSO report is prepared on the basis of the payroll data of new subscribers of various social security schemes run by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). Since April 2018, the data of these bodies are being released, covering the period starting from September 2017.
