The GoI gave clarion call to online travel aggregators and agencies to refund flight tickets booked during Covid-19 lockdown period.

Travel insurance is mandatory for international trips, so one has to get it. However, whether you are going on a long or short trip within the country, the thought of buying travel insurance rarely crosses one’s mind. One of the reasons behind this is that many people are unaware that travel insurance can also be purchased for domestic travel.

Often, people mistake travel insurance for accident insurance and tend to overlook it, assuming that travel insurance only covers accidents. But that’s not the case. Domestic travel insurance covers various incidents, ranging from medical emergencies to loss or theft of belongings.

If you want to travel without worrying about any unforeseen or unforeseen circumstances and financial losses, then make sure to get travel insurance. Now let us tell you about the coverage provided under this insurance:

-If you encounter any health emergency during travel to a new place, this insurance will provide assistance in covering the medical expenses.
-In case of theft or robbery of belongings, the insurance company offers full coverage.
In the event of issues related to travel-related delays or ticket cancellations, the insurance company provides you with a refund.
The expenses incurred in making a duplicate copy of lost items like credit cards, etc., are covered.
In many plans, if your car or taxi breaks down during the journey, assistance service is provided. In case of medical problems, ambulance-related help is also available.

The price of basic domestic travel insurance starts from 250 rupees, providing a coverage of 5 lakh rupees for one person. Insurance companies add different features to their plans, and for higher coverage, they charge higher premiums. The more features you add to your plan, the higher the price will be.

For example, in Bajaj Allianz’s India Travel Policy, you can get a coverage of 5 lakh rupees for a single trip at 242 rupees. Similarly, if you plan to take multiple trips in a year and opt for the multi-trip option, you can get coverage of 3 lakh rupees at an annual premium of 2,998 rupees. This policy includes features like hospitalization due to accidents, daily hospital allowance, trip cancellation, trip delay, emergency hotel extension, delayed baggage, loss of checked-in baggage, adventure sports benefit cover, and more.

New India Assurance’s “Suhana Safar” policy starts from a minimum of 300 rupees. It covers loss of baggage due to reasons like medical assistance, theft, accidents, floods, etc. Apart from road, air, and rail travel, it also provides coverage for damages during travel by car. This policy can benefit more than one person from the insured’s family who is traveling together.

Future Generali’s “Shubh Yatra” policy includes coverage for accidents and loss or theft of belongings. According to the policy terms, you can get coverage for the entire checked-in baggage and the items in it during flights. It also provides coverage for missing trains or flights and offers alternative arrangements in case of hotel room cancellations. Coverage for accidental death during adventure sports, permanent total disability, and other features are also included.

So, we hope that now you have a good understanding of domestic travel insurance and it will assist you in choosing the best plan when needed.
