Sensex gained 638 points, Nifty settled above 15,800 points as the markets wrapped for today. Metals and IT showed a good rally at the closing bells

After three sessions of consecutive losses, followed by a holiday on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha on Wednesday, the Indian benchmark equity indices finally closed in the green on Thursday. Sensex added 638.70 points or 1.22% at 52,837.21 while Nifty 50 added 191.5 points or 1.23% to settle at 15,824.05. All the sectoral movers ended in the green with Nifty Metal outperforming with a rise of 155.30 points or 2.99% at 5,348.95 points. Other top performers included Nifty IT which gained over 1.80%, Nifty Realty increased by 1.75% and Nifty Media gaining 1.50%. Top Nifty 50 gainers included the likes of JSW Steel and Tech Mahindra with gains up to 5.87% and 5.41%, respectively. Other gainers were Bjaja Finance, Bharti Airtel and Tata Steel. The Nifty 50 losers, however, had names like Hindustan Unilever that was down by 2.34%, Asian Paints was lower by 1.83% and Bajaj Auto plummeted by 1.17%. Other losers included Cipla and M&M.
