Nithin Kamath said that Zerodha's team as a whole was probably the unhealthiest ever post the first lockdown.

With an objective to keep its team healthy, the country’s biggest brokerage firm Zerodha is giving a one-month salary to employees who will achieve a particular goal to stay fit. It also announced to give Rs 10 lakh to one lucky winner. In his tweet on August 28, co-founder Nithin Kamath said that Zerodha’s team as a whole was probably the unhealthiest ever post the first lockdown due to the lack of physical activity, work-life imbalance and bad diet.

“We thought of a way to nudge the team to get healthy and the results are phenomenal,” said Kamath. He further added that the company asked everyone to set a 12-month get-healthy goal and update the progress every month, to create accountability.

“To increase participation, we said everyone who reaches the goal will get a 1- month salary as bonus and 1 lucky draw for Rs 10 lakh,” he said adding the transformation stories are super inspiring and pushing others to take action as well.

“We also have proof that getting healthy improves professional performance as well. Our get healthy program will now run permanently. Sharing to seed the idea among fellow entrepreneurs,” said Kamath.

Zerodha, which pioneered discount broking in the country a decade ago, has gone on to become the largest player with over 6 million customers. The Bengaluru-based brokerage that began operations in August 2010 selling the no/low brokerage card has more than doubled its net income and revenue to Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore, respectively in FY21.

The bootstrapped startup, which was launched by brothers Nithin and Nikhil Kamath with their own funds and has zero debt, had Rs 1,093 crore in revenue and earned a profit of Rs 442 crore in FY20; its net income in FY19 was Rs 350 crore and Rs 250 crore the year before.
