The government has announced Rs 10-lakh fund, education, and insurance benefit for children orphaned by the virus. States have stepped up the relief measures with pension schemes.

But the allocation will be a waste if the benefit doesn’t reach the targeted beneficiary quickly. State governments should pack portals with all information and application forms for the schemes.

There should be a mass media awareness campaign on popularising campaigns on these compensation schemes so that people can access these schemes. Mainstream media should also showcase these schemes so that common man is aware.

Apathy in rural India related to treatment of diseases is also that needs to be addressed.

Due to lack of access to technology and awareness, there is a fear that many in rural India may be left out of the vaccination drive. The gram panchayats need to step in here. They can play a crucial role in identifying them and help in applying for the process.

Vaccine hesitancy can be countered only by effective and strong awareness campaigns. The country cannot afford to be blighted by a vaccination drive which cannot cover its rural population.

Quick and smooth implementation of the programme will decide how effective the intervention is going to be.
