The government has granted permission to 523 shops to remain open 24 hours.
In an effort to boost the business environment in Delhi, the Delhi government has granted permission to 155 shops and commercial establishments to operate 24 hours. Over the past two years, a total of 523 shops have been allowed to operate 24 hours, thanks to the initiative of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
How many shops have been granted permission so far?
From 1954 to 2022, during the 68 years in Delhi, only 269 establishments were granted such permission. However, in 2022, 313 applications were approved, and 55 applications have already been accepted in 2023. The file has now been sent to the Lieutenant Governor to determine if they agree with the government’s decision.
What are the regulations for operating 24 hours?
Under Sections 14, 15, and 16 of the Delhi Shops and Establishments Act, 1954, amendments were made to allow establishments to operate 24 hours. These sections previously prohibited keeping employees on night shifts. Additionally, the regulations cover opening and closing hours, time periods for commercial establishments, and rules regarding leaves. The application process for opening a 24-hour commercial establishment has also been digitized. Verification and on-site inspections are conducted within four weeks of submitting the application.
