In wake of the rising covid cases, where a few states have resorted to partial or full lockdown, the government of India has issued guidelines giving free hand to heads of postal circles to decide protocols for day-to-day working in their circles.

The new system

– Heads of Postal Circles must ensure that there is no crowding in the post offices. Public hall, parking, counters, canteen should be crowd-free.

– Covid protocols like social distancing, wearing masks, use of sanitisers should strictly be followed and arrangements should be make for the same.

– Head of postal circles must issue guidelines related to entry and exit timings to avoid crowding.

– Post office employees above 45 years must get vaccinated. This will help in containing Covid-19 spread, especially when the country is seeing  a second wave.

– Work from home option should be given to employees in administrative roles to avoid crowding at the workplace. The employees must be active while working from home and shall be available as and when the requirement comes.

– Frequent sanitisation must be done as a part of the Covid-19 protocol.

– All the meetings, as far as possible, should be done via video conferencing to avoid crowding.

– In wake of the surging cases, biometric attendance will be suspended until further notice. The attendance must be mentioned in a physical register.

– Employees coming to the office must adhere to covid protocol.

Since postal services are counted as essential essential services, their services will be continued even during the lockdown. Postal circles must ensure the covid appropriate behaviour in the office.
