RBI Issues Circular On Levying Unfair Interest Charges On Customers

If you're planning to invest for long term (10-15 years), you can encounter some struggle to beat inflation with debt funds

The Covid-19 has led to big hospitalization and treatment bills that have reiterated the need for a health insurance policy.

Though the treatment of Covid-19 is covered under the many comprehensive health insurances as well as covid-specific policies, those who have also suffered from mucormycosis or black fungus are not aware, if the fungal treatment is also covered under such policies.

Many insurers have acknowledged the fact that even the treatment of mucormycosis is a part of the coverage of comprehensive health insurance policies.

The Money9 Helpline hosted Amit Chhabra of Policybazaar.com to help our callers understand the insurance claim for black fungus, treatment covered under a health insurance policy, etc.

Here are some questions:

Kankanika Chakraborty, Kolkata: My mother and I have comprehensive health insurance policies. Do these policies cover treatment for Black fungus and white fungus?

Chhabra: Yes they do. A comprehensive health insurance policy covers treatment for black and white fungus infection. The policy will cover any hospitalisation related expenditure, post-hospitalisation treatment, etc. It will also cover all the consumables,  medicines, etc.

Tushar Kapoor, Delhi: I have a Corona Kavach policy. I cannot afford any other health insurance policy at present and I don’t have any other policy. Do I need to buy a separate policy for fungal infection?

Chabbra: A lot of people have taken corona-specific policy. But one should understand that black fungus is not a Covid-19 infection. It is a separate disease, which might happen post-Covid-19 infection. So, it does not cover black fungus. But comprehensive health insurance will cover it.

For affordability, there are a lot of plans available that will help you buy a comprehensive health insurance policy. You can consider buying on EMI, wherein you don’t have to pay the whole amount at once.

Bhavna Chaturvedi, Lucknow: Is home treatment for fungal infections covered in health insurance policy?

Chhabra: The home treatment for a disease is covered under domiciliary hospitalisation, which most of the comprehensive policy covers. In a domiciliary hospitalisation a patient could not be hospitalized due to unavailability of hospital beds or other valid reasons. But to claim this requirement for hospitalization of the patient is mandatory.
