She also reiterated that it is extremely important for women begin their investment journey at a very early age

On International Women’s Day, Shibani Sircar Kurien, Senior EVP, Fund Manager & Head -Equity research at Kotak Mutual Fund, spoke to Money9 to discuss the importance of financial planning in a woman’s life.

“Financial independence is for every woman in the world, whether working or not. Financial independence is of paramount importance when it comes to women empowerment as it helps women to make the right life choices,” said Kurien.

She feels things have improved drastically for women in the financial services industry but there is still a long way to go.

“The industry needs to evolve further to include more women to build a sustainable industry, keep encouraging women along the career path and push for women in the leadership positions to encourage more women to join the financial industry. The education sector and the entire ecosystem needs to assert as much importance to Commerce and Economics and not consider it any lesser than Science & Technology,” she said.

She also reiterated that it is extremely important for women begin their investment journey at a very early age.
