On the occasion of Women’s Day, Money9 brings to you stories celebrating the achievements of women.

Money9 spoke to Taskeen Fatima Basha, founder, Urban Fight, about her journey from being a software engineer to becoming a Personal Finance influencer with over 2 million subscribers on YouTube.

“The corporate lifestyle is very hectic. We have the most unhealthy lifestyle. One day, while working, I realised that this needs to stop. So, the process began. You have that thing in your twenties, what else is that in your life? I remember I was just walking out when I thought, Let’s start a YouTube channel,” Taskeen told Money9.

Should financial independence be the central idea of women empowerment?

“Yes, Definitely. As parents, you are supposed to provide security to your daughters. So, let your daughter complete her education first. 9-5 job is just a segment of a cycle that completes you as a man or a woman. It helps you to become a professional. But one must know how to use that money to acquire new skills or a passive income source,” she said.

So, why is it crucial for the women of today to begin their journey towards financial independence?

“For women, the more financially independent you are, the more freedom you get to take your decisions. The dynamics of a relationship also changes when you are not considered independent. Women are good at managing finances. Even a home-maker manages a house smartly. Mainstream media is far behind in portraying strong women on to the screen who know about their finances,” she said.
