Our dependence on technology witnessed some phenomenal change over the last year, especially during the Covid-19 induced lockdown. People increased their screen time to connect with family, friends, colleagues and consume diverse content.

To make the most out of this rising dependency on technology, Android’s go-to app store – Google Play – is soon going to introduce new options to pay for apps and subscriptions for both the users and developers. The company revealed these plans at Google I/O 2021 held on May 19.

With more than 2 million apps on the platform, Google Play is one of the biggest digital distribution services across the globe. Some of these apps often reserve premium features for paid subscribers while some apps do not work without prior membership. If you’re interested to use these paid apps on Google Play, there is news for you.

According to Alex Musil, Director of Product Management at Google Play, the company is set to introduce features like multi quantity purchases and multi-line subscriptions. The former will allow users to buy more than one item at once from a paid app while the latter will allow you to sell multiple products as part of a single subscription.

“We’re also introducing prepaid plans, which will let you offer users access to content for a fixed amount of time. This will give both users and developers more choice as to what they want to pay, and make it easier to do so,” Musil said in a recorded message.

Google Play, which was downloaded more than 140 billion times in the past 12 months, will have many of the above features incorporated in Google Play Billing Library version 4.0, which is now available for developers to implement.
