Apple’s move to launch HiFi music is being seen as a competitive move to tackle the rising popularity of Spotify across the globe

Even before the buzz around Apple’s recent software update – iOS 14.5 – could be contained, there’s another exciting news demanding attention in the tech world. Apple Music may soon get a HiFi music streaming tier that will support Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio, and ‘lossless audio’, a 9to5Mac report claimed.

Apple’s support feature for Dolby is new as the company has kept its support limited to its internal HiFi code ALAC all this while.

Apple Music’s new update will reportedly be launched with iOS 14.6 which is still under beta testing. According to the report, a new code was found added to the Apple Music app in the first build of iOS 14.6 that specifically mentions “Dolby Atmos,” “Dolby Audio,” and “Lossless”.

HiFi files, that produce better sound quality output due to less audio compression, are attracting a lot of audio giants including Spotify. The Swedish audio streaming platform recently said it is also venturing into high-quality audio streaming with ‘Spotify HiFi’. The subscription for HiFi plans will automatically be much higher than the present rates for Spotify Premium.

Apple’s move to launch HiFi music can be a competitive move to tackle the rising popularity of Spotify across the globe.

Several media reports also claimed that Apple’s third-generation AirPods may also debut alongside HiFi streaming support for Apple Music in a few weeks. You can expect AirPod to come with noise cancellation technology and a smaller charging case compared to AirPods Pro.

While one should wait for an official announcement, the Apple Music HiFi and AirPod 3 will reportedly cost customers $9.99 per user and $159 respectively.
