Indian markets erased opening gains to trade flat on Wednesday as IT, metal stocks came under pressure while BSE midcap and smallcap indices outperform the benchmarks. On World Financial Planning Day, Mazhar Mohammad, Chartview India shared key insights on investing in equities as an asset class and market strategies for traders and investors.

“I like to congratulate you and then your team for taking up this financial planning aspect, because, in future, I think the good old days of saving money in real estate, gold, etc are over and then the future is about upward democratization of the markets or financialization of the savings”, he said.

He also believes that with regard to investing in equities, knowledge is very important for the investors as speculating, gambling, or throwing darts in the darkness is not advisable.

“Equity asset class is not for all the retail investors. Only whose risk profile is moderate, they should try to take exposure to equities through mutual funds as the first step. We should not get carried away and think that stock market investing is a very lucrative thing and will give you 100% returns. There are no guaranteed returns in the equity markets. The first rule is investors should be ready to take some kind of losses”, he added.
