Remember when, in the cult-favorite film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, the broody, workaholic Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) thinks to achieve financial freedom and retire at the age of 40? Do you like the idea of being able to do what you want without worrying about finances in your life?

Keeping with the spirit of Independence Day 2021, Hena Mehta, co-founder and CEO, Basis spoke to Money9 on why is it essential for every individual especially women to take charge of their finances and the best ways of doing that.

The basis is a financial services app that aims to help women become more financially savvy and plan better to achieve financial goals.

“We launched Basis with the vision of bridging the knowledge and trust gaps that women face while making and taking action on financial decisions”, said Mehta.

She shared that by committing to financial plans wholeheartedly, women can turn their dream of financial freedom into reality.

There is no arguing that financial independence ensures financial security. In India, as society expects men to provide for the family and take charge of the finances, many women have largely stayed away from making any major financial decisions.

This is changing with modern Indian women now beginning to take charge. For those who still haven’t, she believes one can truly not be independent unless one is financially independent.

In this video, she shares how can women of today take easy steps to begin their journey of achieving financial freedom including the need to normalise conversations about money.
