Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Covid-19 caseload surged to 6,33,302 on Tuesday after 10,321 more people tested positive for the infection, while 22 fresh fatalities pushed the toll to 2,357, a health department official said.
Accordingly, the number of active cases climbed to 1,04,539, he said.
Of the 10,321 new cases, 5,779 were reported from various quarantine centres and the rest detected during contact tracing, the official said.
Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of new cases at 1,566, followed by Sundergarh at 819 and Cuttack at 731.
Five districts reported less than 100 cases — Dhenkanal and Malkangiri at 77 each, Sonepur at 73, Gajapati at 56, and Kandhamal at 54.
The state health department also tweeted, “Regret to inform about the demise of twenty-two Covid positive patients while under treatment in hospitals.”
Three deaths each were reported from Khurda, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Sundergarh, while two each died in Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput districts.
One patient succumbed to an infection in Bolangir.
This apart, 53 other Covid-19 patients in the state have died due to comorbidities.
Altogether 11,821 people have recuperated from the disease in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,26,353, the official said.
Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 5.76 %. Over 1.09 crore samples have been tested for Covid-19 so far, including 56,684 on Monday.
